Upper Field:
Episcopal arms of Saint Charles, Cardinal Archbishop of Milan. Humilitas (humility), under the ducal crown (gold on azure), is taken from the arms of the Borromeo family.
 
Lower Left Field:
Open book (white or argent) with the letters Alpha and Omega (black) on red (gules) ground; signifying the sum total of truth taught by the Church and sealed by the Precious Blood of Christ.
Lower Right Field:
Ploughshare (gold) taken from the arms of the State of Pennsylvania, on a green field, symbolizing the labor of the divine husbandman in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.
The motto, Exiit qui seminat (the sower went forth to sow), is indicative of the new graduate who leaves Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary for missionary labor.
